Hatch Racing/Thor/Wayside Lumber/Yoshimura/Suzuki Team Report: WORCS Round Two- Peoria,AZ
Sutherlin Continues Podium Streak at WORCS Round 2
Peoria, AZ (February 26, 2018) – RM Army off-road racer Gary Sutherlin continued his podium streak with a 2nd place result aboard his Hatch Racing/Thor/Wayside Lumber/Yoshimura/Suzuki at the second round of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) held at Canyon MX Park after crossing the checkers just one second shy of the win.

Sutherlin made an error off the start that caused him to come around the first corner in 11th place. He quickly went to work to move up through the pack and had climbed four positions before the riders hit the 1 mile mark. He continued to push forward and came out in an impressive 2nd place position after the riders came to the end of the pro section on lap one.

Heading into lap two, Sutherlin trailed the leader by 4seconds with the 3rd place rider close behind. The top three riders continued to push the pace and pulled far ahead of the others as they battled each other through the first half of the race.

On lap three, Sutherlin made a pass for first. A lap later, at the halfway mark, he came in for his pit and lost the lead. He reentered the track approximately 18 seconds back. For the remaining 3 laps he pushed hard to close that gap. With one lap remaining he sat 10 seconds behind the leader. He closed the gap to a noteworthy 4 seconds as the two riders made their way onto the final motocross section. With five corners to go, Sutherlin continued to reel in the leader as the crowd cheered landing right at his rear wheel as the riders entered the final corner. When the scanners read the time, Sutherlin was a second shy of the win.
“Although I’m bummed not to get the win this weekend, I am very excited with the progress we have made on the bike,” stated Sutherlin. “We have been on the podium two rounds in a row now, improving each race. If we follow trend, I’m hoping the next round will land me on the top step.”

Round three of the WORCS continues on March 23-25, 2018 in Lake Havasu, AZ.
